She Wants Revenge is currently swinging through the west coast as part of a headlining trek at clubs across the country in support of their debut album. The latest track off the album is “These Things,” and director Sophie Mueller suggested that the song would be best served by an appearance by Garbage frontwoman Shirley Manson. |
Vocalist Justin Warfield talked about how the pairing came about. |
“When it came time to do this video she [Mueller] e-mailed me and said, ‘It looks like we will have a chance to work together again.’ And her schedule allowed it. We discussed ideas, and we kind of all put it in her hands because we trusted her. And one of the first ideas she had was, ‘For some reason I envision Shirley Manson in your video. How do you feel about somebody else being in your video, and how do you feel about it being Shirley Manson?’ And I said, ‘Why do you think Shirley Manson? She said, ‘I don’t know. One thing is when I first heard the song she was sitting with me a year ago, and she liked it, and it just popped into my head.’ I said, ‘I think Shirley Manson is terriffic and if you see something in your head, we trust you 100 percent.'” |
Warfield recalled the moment Manson arrived on the set. |
“When we met Shirley on the set she was an incredible woman. Sometimes, like, in music video situations, filmmaking, when you’re making a movie you kind of form fast friendships with people and you have to get to know them quickly. But with Shirley in the course of one day and evening I definitely felt like I was in the presence of someone who had a tremendous amoung of integrity and experience and a lot of it rubbed off on us in that time. It was like hanging out with a big sister who is like a rock and roll star but the most down-to-earth sweetest girl you can meet.” |
She Wants Revenge will play Lollapalooza in Chicago this year and will also make an appearance at the Siren Music Festival in Brooklyn, New York. The band made an appearance on the Tonight Show With Jay Leno on June 15. |
