SHANICE IS BACK
(VIDEO) Mope rocker Morrissey may be single handedly responsible for the return of the New York Dolls. See what the Dolls had to say in return! |
The New York Dolls, who hit their peak in the early ’70s and were done by 1975 are now back nearly 31 years later. The band is fronted by David Johansen, who had a stint as a solo artist and recorded with the moniker Buster Poindexter. The band is largely credited for both creating the pre-punk movement and planting the seeds for glam metal. |
The New York Dolls will reappear with an album, One Day It Will Please Us to Remember Even This, which is set for a July 25 release date. The comeback was largely spurred on by the band’s biggest fan, and ironically that man is mope-rocker, Morrissey. Johansen talked about the reunion. |
“He’s entirely responsible for it. We got together. We were going to do one show. And we all figured, ‘What? one show. We can do that!’ They made two shows because it sold out and we had such a great time that we went up to Manchester to play with Morrissey shortly after that and then we started getting calls from Reading and Leeds and all the festivals and we started playing them. And, man, we were having a good time, so we dedided, ‘Let’s keep doing this.'” |
New York Dolls forthcoming album, One Day It Will Please Us To Remember Even This features guest appearances by Michael Stipe, Bo Diddley, and Iggy Pop. A World Tour is forthcoming. |
