SHAKIRA SHARES HIPS WITH CYCLONE SIDR VICTIMS

Shakira took time out of her schedule to get down to to see the devastation of Cyclone Sidr first-hand in Bangladesh courtesy of UNICEF.

Lovely latin sensation, Shakira, recently went down to Bangladesh, India to serve as a UNICEF Goodwill Embassador in the wake of Cyclone Sidr, which devastated the area. She visited communities, delivered supplies, and visited children in child-friendly centers who had lost their families and homes.

Shakira talked about the importance of the institution of school after talking with one of the victims, Nipa, who said those hours were only time she felt OK.

“School is always, in a way, in the middle of any tragedy. School goes beyond education. It’s a space where kids can grow in a healthy environment, away from the troubles, for at least a few hours and they can be children again.”

Shakira recently released her Oral Fixation DVD. She is also nominated for a Golden Globe Award for Best Original Song in a Motion Picture for “Despedida” from the film, Love in the Time of Cholera.
