SEPTEMBER DAWN DISTURBING FILM
On September 11, 1857 a group of settlers from Arkansas on their way to California were murdered by the Mormons of Utah which has come to be known as the Mountain Meadows Massacre. Sources estimate that over 100 women, men and children were killed. September Dawn tells the true story of this horrific event. |
Both the film’s stars Jon Voight, and Dean Cain the leaders of the Mormon group agree that the harsh reality is very disturbing. |
“The story is historically documented event in history, a very disturbing event obviously of a massacre that took place in 1857.” |
Dean predicts that audiences and critics will have strong reactions to the truth of the story.rn |
“I think that some people will be very offended by the film and by the slaughter. I think some people will protest it. I think people will think that it’s untrue. I think that some people will think that it demonizes Mormons and the Mormon religion. I think that people will say hey it’s great, someone is finally telling the truth. I think it’s gonna be very controversial. I think that both critics and audiences are gonna be all over the map.” |
A descendants organization recently unveiled a commemorative wagon train at Beller Spring, Arkansas with participants wearing period dress to honor their ancestors who embarked on their ill-fated journey. September Dawn is directed by Dean’s father Christopher who also depicted the history of Billy The Kid in Young Guns. |
