SEAN BEAN HITCHES ONTO THE VILLAIN

A cross country pleasure trip for a young couple on spring break turns into a driving nightmare when they decide to pick up a hitchhiker played by Sean Bean in The Hitcher.

Sean has played the unassuming bad guy before most recently in Flight Plan but he says playing the villainous hitchhiker John Ryder had a different appeal.

“I sometimes find that playing the bad guy or villains or psychopaths tend to be much more psychologically rewarding. You can really push it. You can really push the limits and get away with it. I particularly enjoyed this part because as I said before there is a density to it and a richness in the scenes. The writers have created a very powerful piece of work. I feel they’re very three dimensional characters and they’re not just heavies or villains or bad guys or scary people for the sake of it.”

One Tree Hill star Sophia Bush and newcomer Zachary Knighton are behind the wheel of the Oldsmobile which becomes their death trap. The original 1986 film The Hitcher starred Rutger Hauer as the hitchhiker with Jennifer Jason Leigh and C. Thomas Howell as the couple who pick him up.
