SCRUBS STAR SAVES ICE CUBE
Scrubs star John C. McGinley stars in Are We Done Yet as the building contractor who is hired to fix the Person family’s new home, but winds up becoming much more helpful to them. |
As Doctor Perry Cox, McGinley is used to saving lives so becoming Cube’s family savior was a natural progression he could relate to. |
“He’s a master vulture and the way he helps them is infinitely. He sells them the house. He’s their contractor. He ends up helping deliver the baby. He takes the kids out to swim. He cures Cube’s son of asthma. He empowers his daughter with kind of a rites of passage segue with being OK with relating to boys.” |
His other job was saving Cube from unwanted house guests. |
“At one point between the house is not only infested with bats but raccoons and there are things that Nick is profoundly ill equipped to deal with. And so those seem to be the things that we invite the most. Nick gets chased by bats. I find raccoon poop with corn nuts in it and toss it to him so he can appreciate his dilemma. There’s a gigantic sturgeon in the lake that only Nick sees.” |
McGinley was given free reign by producer Ice Cube and director Steve Carr to run with the character’s quirky behavior, leaving it up to them to decide what wound up on the cutting room floor. |
