SCARS ON BROADWAY CANCEL TOUR, MALAKIAN NEEDS BREAK

Scars on Broadway’s North American tour, which was scheduled to begin October 19th has been cancelled and initially lead vocalist, guitarist and musical mastermind Daron Malakian concluded that his heart wasn’t into touring at this time, so he made the decision to cancel all scheduled performances. After many fans were left wondering what was next for the band, Malakian posted this message on the bands website saying the music of Scars would live on.

“I’ve read many of your postings and I owe it to all of you to respond:I understand all of your frustration and anger, and I never meant to let any of you down. Your support for Scars has been so important to me and the band. I would never cancel a tour unless I had real reasons and personal things that require my undivided attention. The music of Scars will live on, but now is a time when aspects of my life need to be tended to. I hope all of you can understand.” We talked with Daron Malakian just before the release of Scars on Broadway’s debut self titled album to get his thoughts on being the lead vocalist and how hard it can be on the body.

“Singing is the most tiring instrument up there. People usually say the drums, but you build a stamina for the drums and with singing you’re using your whole body and it takes a lot out of you. So, since I’m singing more, it takes a lot more out of me onstage but it’s nothing that’s been a problem or anything. Every band that I was in before System I was the front man so it kind of really takes me back to my teenage garage years, doing that. It’s not foreign to me at all. It was the first instrument I learned.”

There are no future tour dates scheduled for Scars on Broadway. Although fans might be excited for the possible return of System of a Down, that too seems unlikely in the near future as well. Look for Daron Malakian to take a much needed break away from touring although it’s certainly hard to believe he’d be taking a break from recording.
