RYAN REYNOLDS STRETCHES FOR SMOKIN’ ACES
Ryan Reynolds shows he’s more than a comedic actor in Smokin’ Aces. |
Comedic actor Ryan Reynolds thought for sure he’d be up for one of the Tremor brothers in Smokin’ Aces, the comic relief in the film who are wild crystal meth addicted assassins. |
Instead he says director Joe Carnahan saw more depth to his acting chops and gave him a shot to play an FBI agent instead. |
“I thought it would fun to knock my teeth out and shave my head and do something completely different but he had another role in mind for me which is also completely different outside of my typical wheelhouse which is Richard Messner.” |
When heavy acting was required in Smokin’ Aces Ryan realized he had been hiding his emotions behind comedy for too long and decided to take a chance with a dramatic turn. |
“It posed a whole new set of challenges for me as an actor and as a person. I find it difficult to access or allow myself to access emotion and vulnerability. I think it’s one of the reasons I’ve done comedy for a long time as well. It’s sometimes pretty scary for me to let myself go like that. And this role required that in several occasions in the movie. It stretched me a lot as a person.” |
Ryan already has expanded his dramatic horizons for his next film The Nines as a troubled television star making the rounds at the Sundance Film Festival. |
