RUSSELL SIMMONS AND HIP HOP SUMMIT ACTION NETWORK HONORED

Snoop Dogg, Ciara, and Jim Jones were among those honored by the Hip Hop Summit Action Network for positive contributions to the urban community.

Russell Simmons and the Hip Hop Summit Action Network were honored by Newark Mayor Sharpe James last week. The event was held at Weequahic High School on Thursday, February 2nd and attended by over 2000 students. Simmons and the organization were honored for inspiring and uplifting young people across the state and the country. The Hip Hop Summit Action Network has hosted star-studded workshops and panel discussions across the country in addition to registering thousands of voters.

Simmons explained how his organization uses star power to stimulate social change. He said,

“I noticed all of the politicians gather around when we make statements about social or political things that matter. Never any party-related stuff but always socially uplifting ideas that we try to put to the forefront and that’s what the Hip Hop Summit’s purpose is. It’s to use the celebrity and the power of the artists to make the world a better place.”
