Hermoine from Harry Potter might get a little jealous that her Ron is kissing another woman, but it’s all in a days work for actor Rupert Grint starring in his first leading role in Driving Lessons. Set in England Rupert plays the son of a bible belter Laura Linney who befriends a one time famous actress played by Julie Walters and comes to work for her doing odd jobs like escorting her to a poetry recital. There he meets an older woman and parties the night away ending the night with a good old-fashioned snog.

Rupert is finishing up Harry Potter Order of The Phoenix which he says is much darker and scary than previous Potter films and will star in the sixth segment as well. In between he’s looking to change things up a little with another film like Driving Lessons.

“I was really nervous about doing that scene. It was quite scary being it was my first sort of screen kiss thing. You’ve got this whole crew watching you. The worst part is watching it with your family afterward, that’s the embarrassing part but doing it’s alright. She was really good as well. I think it helped because she was older. She was really cool.”

Driving Lessons opens today in theaters.rn

“I don’t know it’s much more sort of growing up in these sort of new experiences. It’s definitely made me want to do more stuff outside Harry Potter, so yeah.”
