ROLLING STONES DRUMMER WATTS SURPRISED MOVIE NOT BORING
Charlie Watts was pleasantly surprised that the Rolling Stones movie, Shine A Light, was not a bore. |
Charlie Watts is usually the unsung member of The Rolling Stones, keeping the backbeat and maintaining a low profile. Fans will get glimpses of his mannerisms and the interaction of the band in ways seldom captured before in the Martin Scorsese concert film, Shine A Light. |
Despite the noteworthy credentials of Scorsese, Watts expected to sit through only a portion of the movie expecting it to be the same boring look at him and his band. |
“But for me that’s amazing because I usually seat… I sat at the end because I thought I would see two numbers and leave because I can’t stand looking at myself or listening to myself. So, I usually slip off, you see, but I was actually pleasantly surprised at that. I don’t know I should have been. I should have expected the quality of the movie itself. Because a lot of times you see them, we’ve had a lot of things done, and a lot of times you see them, and you think, ‘Oh God it’s boring. One there, one there, one there, Mick, Keith, Mick, Keith, and you think Oh… but this was actually interestingly done.” |
Watts also admitted he agrees with vocalist Mick Jagger’s archival footage where he admits he expected the Rolling Stones to last for one or two years, tops. |
“I always thought the Rolling Stones would last about a year or two because all of the bands I’d been in, that’s how long they’d last. That’s a long time when you’re 18 or 19.” |
Shine A Light hits the big screen on Friday, April 4, and it also features a cameo from the Clintons and performances with Buddy Guy, Jack White, and Christina Aguilera. |
