ROBIN THICKE STIRS UP CONTROVERSY
R&B singer Robin Thicke is currenty promoting his platinum sophomore album, The Evolution of Robin Thicke. The singer recently hit a speed bump when someone asked him about the song, “Cocaine,” on his latest album. Thicke said, “‘Cocaine’ is about a feeling, it’s about a time, a scene, about the appeal of when people you think are cool are doing something. It’s about what you think is cool and do you want to feel left out of something, do you want to be the only one that’s not doing it, peer pressure situations.” |
The singer added, “When I wrote that song… I had some old friends that were doing it, I had made some new friends that were doing it, and I was traveling from New York to L.A., and it seemed like it was everywhere and I felt like nobody was talking about it. Everyone was acting like it’s done and it doesn’t exist and yet it was in every bathroom at every party, it was all over the place. And how cool is that? I believe in drugs as a form of celebration.” |
“I grew up and I was inpired by Michael Jackson and Prince and Luther Vandross and Stevie Wonder, Aretha Franklin. So it just happens to be the music that touches my heart and soul and makes me feel strong inside you know. So to be here and to be any part of the history that BET represents and the musicians that have performed on these stages and been on these TV shows is really an honor and a pleasure.” |
In related news, Thicke was recently nominated for a BET Award and he shared his thoughts on the Africam American musicians who have inspired him. The singer said, |
