ROBERT DOWNEY JR. REACTS TO PARANOIA IN A SCANNER DARKLY

(VIDEO) A Scanner Darkly star Robert Downey Jr. observes the similar paranoia in the film as in real life.

Robert Downey Jr stars in A Scanner Darkly set in the futuristic world of Philip K. Dick’s imagination where everyone is paranoid because they’re on this lethal substance D. Robert says there could be some resonance in the story to what is happening in the world today.

Imaginary or real there are many reasons to feel in our society today like we’re being watched.

“Well I know that Phil Dick wrote it as science fiction but people always said that he was very prophetic. I think generation to generation is always paranoid about different stuff. I guess it’s kind of appropriate. It was written in the 70s and I guess there’s something to that. I guess the great thing about science fiction is it can be a cautionary tale to something that’s imaginary.”

“You see that there’s an escalation of monitoring and you read the papers and stuff but again paranoia is fun and I love those statements that say sometimes there really are people in the closet. If they are they’re on your property and they shouldn’t be there then you should do something about it. There are plenty of real things to concern yourself with without being paranoid. Paranoid by nature of what it says means you’re afraid of something that probably you don’t need to be all that afraid of.”
