RITCHIE BLACKMORE AND CANDICE NIGHT SET FOR SECRET VOYAGE
Blackmore’s Night has announced Secret Voyage for August 19. |
Ritchie Blackmore and partner Candice Night will be releasing a new album, Secret Voyage, on August 19. The seminal guitarist for Deep Purple and Rainbow, continues his exploration of Renaissance music with Secret Voyage and rework some familiar worldwide tunes. The band covers Elvis Presley’s “Can’t Help Falling In Love” and Rainbow’s “Rainbow Eyes.” |
Candice Night is popular with children starring at Magiquest as Princess Candice and Princess Amora, but as far as their music is concerned, they feel like they’re not getting a fair shake due to ageism. |
[Night] “When you hit twenty five or over thirty there’s a huge amount of people out there and nobody’s playing music to them. Those are the people who have been around for a generation or two, and they know better. They know what’s come around before. They’ve been through the Led Zeppelins and through the Deep Purples and through the folk scene. They’re aware of a whole other world of music that’s out there, and nobody can find these people anymore. It’s amazing how the wires don’t connect you completely get lost on what’s happening. I don’t understand why that is, that the only people being marketed to are the sixteen year olds.” [Blackmore] “There’s also a severe problem over here with ageism. Anybody over the age of thirty and forty is out of the question. England has the same problem.” |
The album features international flavor from France, Russia, Germany, and England, where many musicians still can carve out careers no matter what age they are. |
[Blackmore]”If you go to Germany, France, Sweden, or…you’ll see lots of musicians in their sixties. Whatever works for the occasion or the show the variety show — we don’t have variety shows here. That stopped with Ed Sullivan and Laurence Welk, and all you have is David Letterman. You can tell that he actually hates his bands.” [Night] “We can tell he doesn’t listen to them, when he gets on there.” [Blackmore] “They make a racket, but they look good, and they’re young. It’s all about being young. I think they’re cutting their nose to spite their face, because musicians usually get better as they grow older. I think so many people I talk to in their forties are going ‘I can’t stand listening to the radio or watching TV because I don’t hear anything other than sixteen-year-olds making a racket,’ and you think that someone would go, ‘You know what? Maybe we should cater to [mature audiences]…” People do grow older whether they like |
Candice Night will star in the film House Of Eternity, which is schedule for release this fall. |
