Legendary singer, songwriter and performer Richie Havens has released another original album titled ‘Grace of the Sun’ and it once again demonstrates Havens natural ability to write songs with a positive message of hope balanced evenly with his easily recognizable soulful voice and extremely unique guitar style. Havens, who opened up the original Woodstock back in 1969, continues to write inspirational songs but in what is a treat for Haven’s fans ‘Grace of the Sun’ features two outstanding renditions of some songs that Richie holds close to his heart. With a recording of the Bob Dylan’s classic ‘All Along the Watchtower’ and Joni Mitchell’s timeless song ‘Woodstock’ Richie reworks these songs in true Haven’s fashion. We caught up with Richie Havens recently to ask him about recording ‘Woodstock’ which was made famous by Crosby, Stills and Nash and about songs that stand the test of time. rn |
Although Havens has performed the classic ‘All Along the Watchtower’ on many occasions and he even recorded it on an earlier out of print release, many fans have been asking where they can hear his rendition, so it was only a matter of time before he took Dylans song into the studio.rn |
‘Grace of the Sun’ features many original songs written by Richie Havnes but also with collaborations with Walter Parks and Christopher Cunningham on guitar and contributions by world musicians Badal Roy (India), Jorge Alfano (Argentina) and Hasan Isakkut (Turkey.) Richie Havens is currently on tour in support of ‘Grace of the Sun.’ The tour will extend until December 9th in New Hampshire and then after the holidays Havens will begin 2007 by performing in Great Britain. rn |
