REM HEADS BACK INTO THE STUDIO, RECORDS LENNON TRACK
R.E.M. glowed backstage after their Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame induction, and they revealed there are new recordings by the band that fans can sink their teeth into. |
The first is their cover of “#9 Dream” by John Lennon for the album Instant Karma: The Campaign to Save Darfur, and the band talked about recording for the compilation. |
“Alright, Yoko Ono gave royalties to all the John Lennon songs for the Compilation CD to various artists to raise awareness for Darfur, and to try to raise money as well. We chose the song “#9 Dream” with Bill Berry playing drums. We chose that song because there are no lyrics in the chorus, and that seems fitting for my earlier lyrical attempts.” |
The band also revealed that they’re heading into the studio for a new album. |
“We’re working on our new studio record. We go into the studio in May. I’m writing songs as I speak.” |
R.E.M.’s new record will be its first since 2004’s Around The Sun. It will be the group’s 14th studio album. |
