R KELLY LEADS SOUL TRAIN NOMINEES
With three nominations, singer R. Kelly leads the pack at this years 20th annual Soul Train Music Awards. |
Kelly’s “TP.3 Reloaded” album, which debuted at No. 1, received a best male R&B-soul album nod while his song “Trapped in the Closet” (Chapter 1) received nominations for best male R&B-soul single and best R&B-soul or rap music video. The video and song, which Kelly describes as a “hip-hopera”, consists of 12 chapters. Each one adding to an on-going saga between characters caught in a bizarre love triangle. |
Kelly will also be the first recipient of the Stevie Wonder Award for outstanding career achievements in songwriting. Stevie Wonder will be in attendance to present Kelly with the award. |
Right behind Kelly, with two nominations each are Mariah Carey, Charlie Wilson, the Black Eyed Peas, Keyshia Cole, Kanye West, Missy Elliott and the John Legend. |
Legend, who’s up for best male R&B/Soul single, and best male R&B/Soul single, will also be honored with the Sammy Davis Jr. Award for entertainer of the year. |
