Mobb Deep’s Prodigy will release an independent album, Return of The Mac, on March 27th. The album will be released through Koch Records, although the rapper is signed to 50 Cent’s G-Unit Records as one-half of Mobb Deep. The project is being billed as a mixtape and Prodigy will release his official sophomore album, H.N.I.C. 2, later this year. |
Prodigy explained how he and Alchemist came up with the idea to record Return Of The Mac. He said, |
“Basically me and Al was just in the crib working on new music, you know what I’m sayin’, like how we always doing and we just came up with the idea you know what I’m sayin’? Cause we was working on my album and so we was like, ‘Let’s put something out right before the album just to warm it up you know what I’m sayin’? Just getting people ready for H.N.I.C. 2, you know what I’m sayin’. But Return of The Mac it’s like a concept, you know what I’m sayin’, mixtape basically, you know what I’m sayin’? At the end of the day it’s getting treated like an album, you know what I’m sayin’? But when we made it, it was just like a concept mixtape, you know what I mean?” |
The lead single from the new project is “Stuck On You.” The album was produced by Alchemist and only features one guest appearance by rapper Un. |
Prodigy released his gold-certified solo debut, H.N.I.C., in 2000. |
