On the Strength of incredible performances all night long, a nod to cultural phenomenon ‘American Idol’ and a special reunion by legends The Police, The 49th Annual Grammy Awards enjoyed a ratings comeback after last year’s disappointing ratings showdown with ‘American Idol.’ Due to a dip in ratings last year, CBS decided to move The Grammy Awards, which were once again held at Staples Center in Los Angeles, Ca, back to Sunday evening where an estimated 20.1 million people watched the 2007 ceremony, which was up 18 percent from last year. Some of the much talked about performances from the evenings festivities were Christina Aguilera’s tribute to James Brown, Carrie Underwood’s multiple performances including a collaboration with Rascal Flatts, Chris Brown’s incredible gift of entertainment, Mary J Blige and Ludacris performing with Earth, Wind and Fire and The Red Hot Chili Peppers who closed down the show and in a true Grammy moment a nod to ‘American Idol’ with their ‘My Grammy Moment’ which was won by Robin Troupe, who won the privIlege of singing a duet with Justin Timberlake. |
All these incredible performances easily catapulted the Grammys to one of their best showings in recent years but what had millions of fans world wide extremely anxious and glued to the beginNing of the show was the long awaited reunion of The Police. Sting, Andy Summers and Stewart Copeland performed a rendition of ‘Roxanne’ just a day before announcing a world wide reunion tour beginning in May. Many of the artists up for awards and performing at The Grammys were eagerly anticipating The Police, including Wolfmother who took home a Grammy Award for Best Hard Rock Performance for their song ‘Woman.’ We caught up with Andrew and Myles of Wolfmother, to discuss their thoughts on one of rock and roll’s most awaited reunions. |
“You know what I like about The Police, I like the high hat. does anyone relate to me about the high hat. He’s doing all these high hat patterns and a reggae kind of thing. Stewart Copeland, what a drummer. When I was a kid I thought they were Swiss, all these Blonde hair dudes. I thought they were Swiss dudes, but as it turns out they’re not and I look forward to their performance. None of them are in the Police force either it’s very confusing when you’re a kid. Yes, everything is confusing, I’m still confused. Me too.” |
The Police Reunion Tour will kick off May 28th in Vancouver Canada and extend until August 3rd in New York. More dates are to be announced in more cities including Houston, Chicago, Los Angeles and other countries as well . According to various sources The Police will tour Europe in September and October 2007. Among the visIting countries will be the UK, Sweden, Spain, Italy, Denmark and others. |
