Pink Floyd brainchild and bassist Roger Waters recently completed work on Ca Ira, an opera based on the libretto of Etienne and Nadine Roda-Gil. The opera is a well orchestrated album that focuses on the early days of the French Revolution. |
Waters said he’s intrigued by the notion of man fighting for his freedom and noted that it was the concept of people not having rights and fighting for their rights that spawned Ca Ira. |
“So, it wasn’t until the French Revolution and the American Revolution that people even had the idea that there might be such a thing as individual and human rights and that we might organize and declare that to be the case. And that’s why Ettienne wrote the piece.” |
Roger Waters Ca Ira was released late last month. The words mean “There Is Hope.” At press time there was no information about any live performance of the three act operatic and orchestral piece. |
