PINK FLOYD MASON GREETS PULSE OF NYC

Pink Floyd drummer Nick Mason attended a New York City in-store on Thursday, September 14, to greet fans and sign copies of their new DVD set, Pulse. Upon its release, the collection not only was the top selling DVD collection in the U.S., it also topped the charts in seven other countries including the U.K. |
Mason talked about what he remembers about the 1994 Division Bell tour, which was Pink Floyd’s last full tour. |
“Well my main memory of it was doing a tour that was acutally long enough to actually get the whole thing right. I really enjoyed it, because we got to a point where the whole show was smooth enough we could afford to start taking risks again. So instead of nailing it and keeping it, we started substituting other songs.” |
The Pulse collection also contains Pink Floyd’s first ever filmed complete performance of Dark Side Of The Moon, and Mason said that the taped performance wasn’t planned. |
“The complete Dark Side was very much a late thought in the tour. Up until then we’d just been doing a Best Of show, endlessly. I think there’s a lesson to be learned, actually. It would suit a number of bands, particularly if you’re doing a number of nights in once city, to maybe actually advertise what you’re actually going to do. So, people who particularly like Dark Side come and see that and maybe there’s a night where you can do more of Wish You Were Here or whatever, you actually do these pieces as separate things.” |
Mason also released a book titled, “Inside Out – A Personal History Of Pink Floyd,” and fans can get all the details about the inner workings of the band. Check back in the next few days as we asked him his thoughts on the literary work. |
