PHISH REUNION GAINING STEAM AGAIN
After Trey hints at possibly working with producer Steve Lillywhite on a new Phish album, rumors are gaining momentum about a possible Phish reunion |
Certainly one of the most talked about moments at the inaugural Rothbury Festival in 2008 was when Trey Anastasio, Mike Gordon and Jon Fishman performed a cover of The Beatles “She Said She Said” thus marking the first time more than two members of Phish have performed on stage together since the band broke up in 2005. Although Page McConnell was missing and it was technically only three out of the four members, many of Phish’s die hard legion of fans continue to hold out hope for a reunion. In fact, in a recent interview with Rolling Stone Magazine, Trey mentioned the band would possibly look to work with producer Steve Lillywhite on an upcoming new album and since then it was revealed that the band is in fact preliminary discussion on working together on something in the near future. |
We caught up with Mike Gordon, bassist for Phish, who is currently touring in support of his latest solo album ‘The Green Sparrow’ to get his thoughts on the magical bond between the members of Phish. |
“It was great to, we have such a bond with the Phish band members that as soon as even just two of us get on stage together or get in a room together there’s a certain chemistry that’s magical after all we’ve been through after all these years. It always just comes just like that. Trey’s first guitar note just sings right out of that amp in a way that’s ‘Oh yeah, my old friend.’ So yeah, of course it feels good.” |
We also talked with Mike to find out if he gets tired of being asked questions about a possible Phish reunion. |
“The only reason I get sick of the questions is because there’s no more answers. It felt good to play with those guys but we’ve all been playing in different combinations anyway and I was much more concentrated on my new band. It was my first weekend playing with my new band, so.” |
Mike Gordon is currently touring in support of ‘The Green Sparrow’ with dates extending until September 7th in Boston, Massachusetts. Trey Anastasio is slated to perform, ‘Time Turns Elastic,’ a new piece co-written with Don Hart for electric guitar and orchestra. Trey’s performance will be at The Ryman Theater in Nashville, Tennessee on September 27th and will feature Orchestra Nashville, conducted by Paul Gambill. Page McConnell will join George Porter Jr., Russell Batiste Jr., and Brian Stoltz for a handful of dates this September to coincide with a new Porter, Batiste, Stoltz live release entitled MOODO. This Fall, drummer Jon Fishman will join Yonder Mountain String Band for two shows; at New York’s Nokia Theater on October 10 and the Electric Factory in Philadelphia on the 11th. Obviously the members of Phish continue to stay extremely busy as they explore their musical creativity outside the band. However, one can only believe it’s just a matter of time before the band feels the need to explore their roots again! Only time will tell! |
