PEPPER RELEASE CRUSTACEANS AND GOOD VIBRATIONS
Pepper have released their latest album and the band talk about having a good time in the studio even though that had to over come some personal issues |
Hawaii’s own, Pepper, have officially released their latest album ‘Crustaceans and Good Vibrations’ and the band will look to continue building upon the success that has seen them amass a large and loyal following with their infectious blend of Rock and Reggae. Pepper, which consists of Kaleo, Yesod Williams and Bret Bollinger, went into the studio in Redondo Beach, California with producer Paul Leary of the Butthole Surfers and the band was pleased to have only one producer for the entire recording session of ‘Pink Crustaceans and Good Vibrations.’ |
We caught up with bassist Bret Bollinger to get his thoughts on the band finding a closeness as a three piece unit in the studio and how it was a great place to forget about all the outside distractions and personal issues they were going through during the recording of ‘Crustaceans and Good Vibrations.’ |
“We really went in and just jammed it out and during that time there was actually quite a few personal issues going on with family members and all kinds of crazy stuff. That kind of bled into the music a little bit too. I think it kind of sobered the situation up and then we really came together as not just a producer but it’s the closest the three of us have been as far as sitting in the room and really enjoying making music. It’s almost like ‘Wow, this is why we’re doing this and this is why life is so good.’ So that’s what it came from.” |
We also talked with Bollinger about Pepper once again having fun during the recording sessions and how it comes through on the recording. |
“Basically the feel of the album is not artsy or anything like ‘Oh we really went in…’ it’s the exact opposite of that. Just grab the disc type thing, go to the beach or go somewhere with your friends, pop it in and just kind of let it happen. I don’t know how to describe it. There’s no impending need to go out and say ‘This is the song you should listen to!’ It’s not like that. It’s more of just like we had fun making it and we got to work with a producer, one producer all the way through this time and that was really fun. Paul Leary, from the Butt Hole Surfers and we just had a good time.” |
Pepper will once again release their album via the band’s own label LAW Records. Pepper are currently touring in support of ‘Crustaceans and Good Vibrations’ with dates extending until September 6th at The Open Air Theater in San Diego, California. Slightly Stoopid and reggae legends Sly & Robbie will be joining the band on all dates. Look for the band to kick off a run of tour dates in The U.K. beginning November 2nd and extending until November 19th. |
