Paul Wall latest album, Get Money, Stay True, debuted in the Top Ten of the Billboard 200 albums chart last week. The set sold 92,000 copies its first week in stores to land at Number Eight. The album features guest appearances by Lil Keke, Jermaine Dupri, Trina, Jon B, Juelz Santana, Freeway, and Paul’s new group Expensive Taste which consists of the rapper, Blink 182’s Travis Barker, and Skinhead Rob of the Transplants. |
Prior to launching his solo career, Wall and Chamillionaire were a group called the Color Changing Click. The duo released a very successful independent project in 2002, titled Get Ya Mind Correct, before they fell out and parted ways. Wall recently shared that he’d be into reuniting for an album. The rapper said, “I was so proud of that boy Chamillionaire that he won the Grammy. I ran up and gave him a big ol’ hug, man. …..I’m down. I just want to get these record labels on board that believe in the project. I’m sure a lot of labels would love to do it because of the potential of the hype, but if we get a record label that believes in it, I’m not opposed to it.” |
“Paul Wall started out working in our office with me, you know what I’m sayin’? You know he used to talk about this day and him rapping. You know it was funny cause he was int here with me, doing what I was doing. So for him to come…I very proud of both of those guys, you know what I’m sayin’, much success. All we plan on doing is taking it to the big level you know. Probably becoming a big major label ourselves, you know what I’m sayin’, instead of signing with the Warners, the Atlantics, and all those types. We want to represent the south.” |
Wall has come along way. Before rapping, he spent the bulk of his time deejaying and working as a street team and promotions worker for Swishahouse. The label’s A&R, T. Farris, can still remember the days when Wall worked in the office with him. Farris said, |
