PAUL RODGERS FREE FROM BAD COMPANY IN GLASGOW
Paul Rodgers, vocalist for Free, Bad Company, The Firm and now QPR (Queen Paul Rodgers) talks about his solo set Live In Glasgow. |
Paul Rodgers, voice for Free, Bad Company, is set to release his new live album and DVD Live In Glasgow. The CD version of the collection is released on Tuesday (April 17), but the DVD is not slated to hit outlets until May 4. |
The legendary singer said that the band cased the venue and decided that this was the one and only place to get the album and the DVD done. |
“We only recorded Glasgow actually, so it was kind of a do or die, we’ve got to get it there. We did select it because it was the best venue for the thirteen cameras that we were using. It was the one venue that really had the space in the wings of the stage and in back, to accommodate without interfering with the show too much. We’re lucky…and of course Glascowegians are such a great crowd, you know?” |
While Rodgers checks in with material from Bad Company and The Firm, his post-Led Zeppelin project with Jimmy Page, the set is packed with songs from his first successful band, Free. Rodgers explained the choice of songs. |
“Well two reasons, really. A) I was playing in England, and in the U.K. Free is a much beloved band. The material I wrote with those guys is very, very familiar to the people there, and they really, really want to hear it. I knew that the album would be released worldwide, but I thought it would be… There’s a great deal of interest in the rest of the world that actually seems to be growing in what Free did. So, I thought it would be a good idea to be different and include a lot more of the Free material.” |
Paul Rodgers Live In Glasgow is a primer in the classics including: Free’s “All Right Now,” “Wishing Well,” and “Fire And Water;” Bad Company’s “Can’t Get Enough,” and “Feel Like Making Love;” and The Firm’s “Radioactive,” among others. |
