Paul Oakenfold has released his second artist album of all new material titled ‘A Lively Mind’ and this go around was considerably more focused in the studio and also showcases new talent. Perhaps many people don’t know this but Paul Oakenfold honed his musical ear as an A and R rep at the UK Based Champion Record Label were he was instrumental in signing Will Smith and Salt N Peppa. A few decades later, Paul Oakenfold has become one of the worlds most influential DJ’s and with the release of ‘A Lively Mind’ Paul shows no signs of slowing down. Although there are appearances from well known artrists, Pharrel Williams and Grandmaster Flash, Oakenfold admitted his new album was more about showcasing new talent and in particular, actress Brittany Murphy, who sings lead vocals on the single ‘Faster Kill Pussycat.’.

‘A Lively Mind’ is Oakenfold’s follow up artist album to his hit record Bunka, which was released in 2003 and went gold riding the hits ‘Ready Steady Go’ and ‘Starry Eyed Surprise.’ When asked to compare ‘A Lively Mind’ with ‘Bunka’ Oakenfold went on to talk about how much more focused this album is.

“This album showcases a lot of new talent, Bad Apples, Spitfire, Ryan Tetta, Syri. These were all unknown singers, artists and bands who have not had material out in their own right yet. Brittany also, she had never done a record. It was great we met through mutual friends and we became friends hanging out. Since I spent a lot of time working in film I definitely wanted to showcase somewhere on the record that avenue. I wanted to use a vocalist that had never done a record before, I wanted to find someone who was cool, in my opinion cool and sexy and cutting edge. Brittany delivered this wonderful vocal, a real strong and sexy voice. It really worked well, I think people are going to be shocked once they know it’s her.”

Oakenfold is set to release ‘A Lively Mind’ June 6th and he has already begun work scoring a film for his next project. With video games, commercials, DJ appearances, film scoring and producing his own albums, somehow Paul Oakenfold still finds time to manage his record label, Perfecto. Look for Paul to announce more world tour dates in support of ‘A Lively Mind’ in the near future.

“It’s different in terms of a lot more uptempo, a lot more melodic and I feel that it’s a bit more focused. Certainly it will sit better in the electronic dance arena compared to my last record.”
