Movie star and NASCAR racer Paul Newman stars in Disney’s newest Pixar offering Cars. Newman is the voice of Doc Hudson, a 1951 Hudson Hornet with a mysterious past. When Owen Wilson’s Lightning McQueen is detoured to the town of Radiator Springs on his way to California to compete in the Piston Cup Championship, Doc Hudson shows him the true meaning of being a winner. Newman says he couldn’t turn down the opportunity to showcase his passion for cars. |
At 81 years young, Paul Newman is still going strong behind the wheel and has no plans to put the brakes on anytime soon unless his wife Joanne Woodward loses her patience or he embarrasses himself. The Academy Award winner says his biggest fans are his grandchildren. |
“Would I be interested in doing an animated cartoon about a race film in which I played a 1951 Hudson Hornet. I said the combination is irresistible. The character which is the vocal aspect of it came very quickly. He was Southern, he was old. He was tired and he was smart.” |
Newman’s first car he ever owned was a Taupe colored1937 Packard which he proudly says got him from Wisconsin to New York without stopping. Cars races into theaters June 9. rn |
“My grandkids come to all of my races especially up here in Connecticut and they go ape. I think they’re really gonna enjoy this film. It’s gonna be a great family film.” |
