PATRICK DEMPSEY PONDERS HAPPILY EVER AFTER
Patrick Dempsey is the straight-laced attorney sideswiped with the notion of happily ever after in Enchanted. |
Patrick Dempsey gets out of his Grey’s Anatomy scrubs and into a three-piece suit to play a Manhattan attorney in the musical Enchanted who is magically confronted by a fairytale princess when she is banished by the evil Queen. |
Dempsey wonders how his character reacts to Amy Adams, as Giselle when she has crossed over the fantasy of happily ever after into the reality of love in the gritty city. |
“Well I think Robert’s character embodies the cynicism of love and there’s no such thing as happy ever after. It’s a lot of work and not some sort of fairy tale or projection of what you think life is about. It’s not that at all, and I guess we have to learn in life is that there is magic there. We just have to allow ourselves to be open to it.” |
Patrick says it was tough being the straight-laced lawyer amongst the singing and dancing going on by the Disney-based characters. |
“The hardest thing has been playing the straight person to all of these broad larger than life characters and trying to keep the audience’s point of view. So they get to have fun and I have to kind of stay centered.” |
Enchanted also features Susan Sarandon as the evil Queen Narissa and James Marsden once again showing off his pipes as Prince Edward. |
