PAPOOSE PRAISES THE INDIE ROUTE
East coast rappers have traditionally had a harder time releasing music independently then their southern and midwestern counterparts. For years east coast rappers were forced to find a way to sign with a major label in order to get their music out but now things are starting to change. One of the trailblazers is Papoose who has been able to remain independent while reaping the benefits of an artist signed to a major label. |
Papoose explained, |
“Everybody dream is just to get signed to a major label. My tip to the youth is be more independent upon yourself. I reap all the benefits of a signed artist without a deal. I think I made history with that. You know I reap paid shows and everything. Like I said, all the magazines, all the press. I’ve been on MTV, been on BET. You know I’m not here to tout my own horn but just be more independent upon yourself. I push my own music to the radio. I push my own music everywhere. I do it myself. I depend upon myself before you depend on anybody else.” |
Papoose is currently working on his debut album and he will be featured on upcoming albums by Busta Rhymes, Kay Slay, and Shaquille O’Neal. |
