PAPOOSE HOPING TO BE 2007 ROOKIE OF THE YEAR
Papoose is hoping 2007 will be his break out year as he releases his debut, Nacirema Dream, on Jive Records…. |
Brooklyn-based underground rapper Papoose is hoping that 2007 will be his year. After signing an unprecedented $1.5 million deal with Jive Records, Papoose will release his major label debut, Nacirema Dream, early next year. The rapper recently released the first single and video from the project, Alphabetical Slaughter. |
Although hard at work on his debut, Papoose has taken the time to record a song in response to the fatal shooting of Queens, New York resident Sean Bell by the New York Police Department. The song aptly titled, “50 Shots,” calls the officers involved in the shooting to task for using excessive force and killing Bell without provocation. The song has been gaining airplay at underground stations. Papoose has also joined others rappers such as Nas as they’ve lent support to Bell’s family and participated in anti-police rallies. |
“You know money is what we need to support our families, and to feed our kids, and to do everything. So economic things in the community definitely affect us. I feel that certain communities, you know, should employ their own community. Instead of outsiders coming in and making all the money and taking outside of the community. I think the money should stay in the community so that it can circulate. Everything moves three hundred and sixty degrees.” |
Papoose may be a newcomer to the rap scene but he owns property in Brooklyn and has strong opinions in regards to the economic development of his community. The rapper said, |
No release date has been set for Nacirema Dream. |
