New York’s Hot 97 held its annual Summer Jam concert on Sunday, June 4th, at Giant Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, and the concert featured performances by Three 6 Mafia, Remy Ma, Ne-Yo, Young Jeezy, Chris Brown, Sean Paul, Busta Rhymes, Mary J. Blige, Mobb Deep, Jamie Foxx, The Diplomats, Jermaine Dupri & Dem Franchize Boyz, T.I. and others. |
The show’s highlights include Jamie Foxx bringing out LL Cool J during his set and Sean Paul allowing Baby Sham to perform “Ghetto Story” during his set. |
“Basically I’m just gonna be myself and do what I do. I feel like people got to you know, people go to elect you as the individual to bring New York back to the forefront. I’m not one to stand up here and say you know, ‘I’m bringing New York back.’ I speak by what the people say. The people got to elect you as king or anything. So you know a lot of fans are saying that. Even when I’m in the south, they saying, ‘Yo we like how you bringing New York back.’ So you know I’m just gonna be myself and continue what I do with my God given talent, you know what I mean?” |
Jermaine Dupri also flexed some of his muscle when he invited his girl Janet Jackson out on stage for a kiss. Later during the set, Dupri was joined by his protege Da Brat and he brought Mariah Carey out. |
Busta Rhymes’ set was the evening’s high point. Busta Rhymes ran through some new material before hitting some classics and his latest hit, “Touch It (Remix).” Rhymes was joined by Rah Digga, Missy Elliott, and Papoose for his performance of the remix. Papoose got one of the loudest responses from the Tri-State crowd. Later Rhymes invited the Wu-Tang Clan, Rakim, Big Daddy Kane, Slick Rick, and Q-Tip to perform some of their classics. |
With the reaction the crowd gave him, Papoose is well on his way to being the next New York rap king. He said, |
