OZZY, METALLICA, SLAYER, SLIPKNOT, VINNIE PAUL HONORED AT THE FIRST ANNUAL GOLDEN GOD AWARDS
Heavy Metal is finally honored in America with the first annual Revolver Golden God Awards and Ozzy was awarded the first lifetime achievement award. |
America’s first-ever hard rock and heavy metal music award show, the Revolver Golden God Awards, took place on Tuesday April 7th and a plethora of Metals biggest names came out to show their support for America’s leading Heavy Metal Magazine, Revolver. Hosted by comedian Brian Posehn (The Sarah Silverman Show), The Golden God Awards featured performances from Megadeth, Killswitch Engage, Hatebreed, All That Remains and Suicide Silence and a special DJ set from Corey Taylor of Slipknot. In what quickly has become The Oscar Awards for Heavy Metal music, many of the genre’s biggest names came out to celebrate at the first annual Golden God Awards, but by far the biggest honor of the night went to the legendary Ozzy Osborne who was honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award. The evening, which celebrated the music of one of rock’s most enduring and fan-supported genres, also featured special appearances by Motörheads Lemmy Kilmister, Glenn Danzig, Maynard James Keenan of Tool and Puscifer, Chuck Billy and Eric Peterson of Testament, Scott Ian of Anthrax, Slayer and Alice in Chains to name just a few of the musicians who came out to show their support. |
Artisan News caught up with Vinnie Paul of Hell Yeah and Pantera, to get his thoughts on winning the Most Awesomely Good Drummer award. |
“This is amazing man. It’s something that’s long overdue. It’s something that our genre and our community really needed and it’s very welcomed. You know basically I’m most excited to see the fact that we’re going to have a full house of nothing but Metal heads who want to kick some ass. All these bands are going to give you everything they got. We’re going to have a really great time tonight.” |
We also caught up with Kerry King of Slayer, to get his thoughts on winning the award for most most mind blowing guitarist in Metal along with band mate Jeff Hanneman. |
“You know it’s cool. It made me think about the time I met Jeff, when we were seventeen and I was at this piece of s**t audition for a nobody band that never became anything and I found Jeff in the hallway and said ‘You and I should jam.’ And that was the beginning.” |
MTV2 will air a one-hour Revolver Golden Gods Awards nominee special on Saturday April, 25th followed by a one-hour Golden God Awards special on May 2nd. Just a few of the other awards given out were Best Underground Band: Isis, Album of the Year: Metallica, Golden God: Dave Mustaine of Megadeth, Monster Riff of the Year and Best Live Band: Slipknot, Most Viral Video: Protest the Hero, Best New Talent: Suicide Silence and Best International Band: Dethklok. |
