Owen Wilson is Dupree of You, Me and Dupree playing the best friend and best man of newlywed Carl played by Matt Dillon. When Dupree loses his job he shows up at his pal’s doorstep like a lost puppy, needing a place to crash.

Three is definitely not company when Dupree makes himself at home, extending his temporary stay. Owen says he’s not your ideal roommate.

“Carl insists I move in and you know you can imagine that a newly married couple that can be a very stressful situation. That is a very stressful situation having me there and Dupree is someone who means well and doesn’t have a bad bone in his body.”

Dupree also sets the house on fire, doesn’t bother wearing pajamas when he goes to bed and ultimately causes a riff between Carl and his wife Molly played by Kate Hudson. Owen says his favorite scene is when Dupree begins to click with Molly.

“He’s not the cleanest person. He has sort of a Mr. McGoo quality where inadvertently things kind of go wrong. He messes up one of the bathrooms and all these kind of things are not quite clicking.”

Owen Wilson has had his own share of unwanted room mates. His brother Luke moved into his Hollywood bachelor pad and wouldn’t leave even though he had his own place to live a mile away. You, Me & Dupree opens Friday, July 14.

“I really like the scene of when Molly and Dupree start to kind of bond and Dupree begins to sound like an ex-wife of Carl’s because he obviously has known him forever so when they’re kind of talking I just thought that was really funny. They’re cooking together and watching Audrey Hepburn movies and that stuff’s funny to me.”
