(VIDEO) OutKast turns down an invite to Oprah Winfrey show….. |
In recent months, Oprah Winfrey has come under fire for not inviting rappers to appear as guests on her show. The media giant was hoping to make a statement by inviting OutKast to her show in September but the group has turned down the invitation. Fox News reports that the group didn’t decide against appearing as a show of solidarity to other rappers but rather because group member Andre 3000 wouldn’t commit to the mid-September tape date. |
The group will release their new album, Idlewild, on August 22nd and their feature film debut, Idlewild, on August 25th. So a mid-September date with Oprah Winfrey may not have done much for the promotion of the projects. |

Andre 3000 explained his decision not to tour or do shows in support of the new album. He said, |
“The cartoon, it will be a Cartoon Network prime time animated show. Growing up some of my favorite cartoons were Peanuts and Fat Albert. So it’s a music based cartoon. Every show, you’ll get a song that’s written and produced by me and it’s called Class of 3000. It’s about an entertainer at the top of his career. He quits the business and moves back to his hometown to teach five or six musically gifted kids.” |
The rapper will use his time away from touring to work on his acting and a new cartoon. He explained the concept behind his new cartoon series, |
