San Francisco-based singer songwriter Nya Jade recently released the second single, Live, from her debut album, My Denial. The first single from the project was “One Pill,” which has a totally different sound then Jade’s latest release. The singer explained, āIām such a fan of different forms of music. My goal from the start was to make a record where no two songs sounded exactly the same, with my voice tying it all together.ā Jade’s diverse musical taste stems from the fact that the singer, who was born in Ghana and raised in the Bahamas, Puerto Rico, and Canada, was exposed to all kinds of music as a child including salsa, reggae, gospel, and R&B. |
The vocalist always wanted to purse a career in music but she found herself at Stanford University and following in her father’s footsteps in the Pre-Med program. Jade was forced to re-evaluate everything after she was involved in a serious car accident her junior year. |
“And I just knew music was a passion but at the same time I was committed to graduating with a degree and so I actually stayed and got a Masters degree too focused on organizational studies through the sociology department. But my undergrad was in economics. So I guess the Econ degree helps in music cause it’s a business. But I would hate for people to have to go through something that painful and crazy to come to terms with what they want to do with their life.” |
The singer explained that at that point she decided to pursue her musical dreams although she did complete her course work at Stanford. Nya Jade said, |
