NYA JADE LAUNCHES NON PROFIT
San Francisco based singer songwriter Nya Jade recently announced plans to launch the Nurturing Young Africa (NYA) Foundation to support the welfare of African children orphaned by HIV/AIDS and other circumstances. Jade has decided to raise funds for her foundation by collaborating with sculptural jewelry design company RedStart Design to launch her own new jewelry collection. The singer is hoping to leverage her stardom to increase awareness of disadvantaged children in Africa and to inspire her fans to reach out to them. |
Jade has always wanted to help others. When she enrolled at Stanford University, her plan was to study pre-med and to follow in her father’s footsteps. The singer explained why she changed her mind. She said, |
“I think I was wanting to follow my dad footsteps and so that’s why I wanted to do the whole medicine thing. And I think I just had this like global idea of helping people, saving people but I hated organic chemistry. It was like a love-hate relationship. And then it was just one of those things where I was in a car accident at Stanford. I was pedistrian hit by a car so the whole metal on flesh thing. It kind of woke me up. One of those things like you’re here today, gone tomorrow. What do you really want to do with your life. And there’s just more than one way to save the world.” |
Nya Jade released her debut album, My Denial, on her own label Katako Records in 2006. The latest single and video from the project is “Live.” |
