NELLY IS SAVING LIVES

(VIDEO) Nelly’s Jes us 4 Jackie Foundation is saving lives…..

Three years ago, Nelly founded a nonprofit named Jes Us 4 Jackie with his sister Jackie Donahue, who was diagnosed with Acute Myelogenous Leukemia. The foundation was launched to raise awareness about the disease and to find a possible bone marrow donor for Donahue. Unfortunately Donahue passed away in March 2005 after her leukemia came out of remission.

According to Nelly, the organization has been able to find matches for eight other people. He said, “We are still pushing. We’ve been able to find eight different matches and we were able to save eight different lives. You can say what you want about Nelly, but Nelly has saved eight different lives and I don’t know anybody that’s done that.”

“You know we do get serious and we do touch on issues, don’t get me wrong cause we can’t run from it. You know what I’m sayin’? Hell man I grew up crazy you know so I ain’t got to speak on it all the time though. And I ain’t got to drive your mentals on it you know what I’m sayin’? So I’mma try to uplift you as well you know what I’m sayin’? So if I can get you for one minute, for four minutes, for four minutes and thirty seconds, take your mind off your problems and have a good time then so be it.”

The foundation is currently working on its ninth match as Nelly’s aunt Chalena Mack, who runs the foundation, is a match for a young lady in California. Nelly explained, “She’s is ecstatic about it. Hopefully that’s number nine. Even though we didn’t find a match for my sister, we are trying to send a message that it’s bigger than any one person.”

Nelly has always felt the need to give back. Early in his career he explained how he used his music to help people get their minds off of their problems. He said,

Nelly is currently featured on Janet Jackson latest single “Call On Me.” The rapper is working on a new album which he plans to release late next year.
