NATIVE TONGUES REUNION WILL PROBABLY NEVER HAPPEN
In the mid-90’s the Native Tongue crew was one of the most creative collectives in hip-hop. The crew, which consisted of De La Soul, the Jungle Brothers, Monie Love, A Tribe Called Quest, Chi-Ali, Blacksheep, and Queen Latifah, is probably most well-known collective for their hit, “Buddy,” from De La Soul’s 1993 debut, Three Feet High & Rising. |
Hip-hop heads have been optimistically waiting for years for a possible reunion or new song from the collective but that will probably never happen. |
“It’s a feeling. It’s a vibe. It’s a friendship. We’re not going to hook up with Afrika and Mike or Tip and Monie and Phife and everybody just to make another record. It’s what feels good to us and what it means to us is bumping in to each other and talking about, ‘Yo how’s your Mom,’ or ‘How’s your kids doing? How you been?Where you move to? Where you at? Let me get a number. Let’s talk.’ That’s where it is for us. And not to take away anything from the fans out there who support everything that we do and have supported everything that we’ve done you know but for us it’s not a product. It’s a feeling.” |
