Queensbridge-based rapper Nas is back with his new studio album and Def Jam Records debut, Hip Hop is Dead…The N. The album, which hits stores on Tuesday, December 19th, has been at the center of many discussions becauseof its controversial title. According to Nas, the title isn’t a shot at the south or the west but rather a call to arms for his fellow rappers because of the limited role minorities play in the ownership and distribution of the music. |
The album is the rapper’s first since inking a lucrative deal with Def Jam for his Jones Experience label and he will be releasing the debut album from R&B singer Tre Williams in the future. |

The latest single from Hip Hop Is Dead is the title track which was produced by Will.I.Am. The set also features the producution of Dr. Dre, Kanye West, Scott Storch, Salaam Remi, L.E.S., and Chris Webber with guest appearances by The Game, Kelis, West, Jay-Z, Snoop Dogg and Floetry’s Marsha Ambrosius. |
The next single from the project is “Still Dreaming” featuring newcomer Chrisette Michele. |
While Nas may be unhappy with the current state of commercial hip hop. He shared that he’s been watching the growth of reggaeton and latin hip hop. He said, |
