MUTANT MAKE-UP SECRETS OF THE HILLS HAVE EYES 2
Behind every zombie movie is a really cool make-up artist. The Hills Have Eyes 2 enlisted K.N.B prosthetic make-up artist Tami Lane to transform every day actors into dripping, oozing creatures. |
The mutants of The Hills Have Eyes 2 had to endure scorching hot temperatures in the Morrocan desert. Jonathan Craven says a special enclosure had to be designed for cooling off so their zombie make-up wouldn’t melt. |
“The make-up process was really complex and really cool. I think there were several four hour make-ups when the mutants were working. So Tami and her crew were often up at four o’clock in the morning and working well before anybody else was. We had a special tent on really hot days on the stage with an air conditioner in it where the people who had the full monster make-up had to sit in an air-conditioned tent so that the make-up didn’t literally melt off because they had to work all day and the stuff is latex or whatever and does melt off eventually.” |
Jonathan is so proud of the make-up artist’s handiwork and look of The Hills Have Eyes 2 that he thinks there may be Oscar nods in the film’s future. |
“We expect to be nominated for every Academy Award nomination category next year so here’s hoping. Special effects, make-up, writing, best disgusting scene, best mutilation.” |
Leading the team of mutants is Chameleon, half human, half rock who is diabolically deformed with blisters and boils covered with dirt and mud. |
