MUSIC FROM THE OC MIX 6 COVERING TRACKS
Each season The OC puts together a star studded list of music that has made an impact on the hit show. The OC Mix 6 is no different. |
Each season, The OC puts together a mix of music from bands that have made an impact on the hit show. The OC Mix 6 continues to showcase up and coming Indie acts. For The OC Mix 6, the creators decided to feature a ‘Covers Only’ CD with bands like Rock Kills Kid, Goldspot, Lady Soverign and Mates of State covering tracks from The Sex Pistols, Black Flag, Pixies, ELO and Modest Mouse. |
We caught up with Rock Kills Kid, who cover a rendition of Spoon’s song ‘I Turn My Camera On’ to discuss what goes into choosing a cover song. |
“You have to like to song and for us it was really easy. We were given some different choices but everyone in the band were all really big fans of Spoon and it was an easy process, it was like a no brainer for us. We all kind of immediately agreed that we wanted to tackle one of the Spoon songs we were given. The Spoon songs are so well written, you can play a country version of the song or a reggae version and it will still be cool.” |
It’s no secret that through the years The OC has featured a number of bands in the show and it’s no coincidence a bands like Jet, Death Cab for Cutie, The Killers, Imogen Heap, Interpol and many more are enjoying mainstream success with the help of having their music in a Primetime TV Show. |
“It’s a great venue too, because to be on this soundtrack it’s pretty amazing. There’s millions of people watching the show and millions of people hearing your music, so it’s pretty simple. It’s awesome really but it depends on the show obviously but a show like The OC has made a huge impact on youth and the culture of today and so if someone is hearing our band on there they will always associate their childhood with The OC and Rock Kills Kid with The OC and you couldn’t ask for any better publicity or press.” |
We also talked with Rock Kills Kid about what a huge impact the show has had on kids and what a huge impact the show has also had on up and coming bands. |
Although The OC was at a time the top-rated drama among advertiser-favored young adults with a total audience of nearly 10 million, in early 2007 Fox announced the show was canceled and the final episode will take place Feb. 22nd. Even though the show will no longer be putting together Mix Tapes it’s undeniable the show had a big impact and showed the idustry how important having contemporary music in their TV Shows can be. Can anyone say ‘Greys Anatomy’ and The Fray? |
