MUDVAYNE FANS DO WHAT THEY DO FOR VIDEO SHOOT
Mudvayne offered fans a chance to be in their videos for songs off the forthcoming The New Game album, but could make-up be back? |
Mudvayne recently invited fans to come on board and be in their new video for “A New Game,” “Do What You Do” and also film some parts for future videos from the band’s soon to be released album, The New Game. The shoot was in New Jersey on Saturday, October 4 just thirty minutes from Manhattan. |
Mudvayne said that the band is no longer trapped by their image and of wearing or not wearing the make-up. Matt McDonough and Chad Gray talked about their visual freedom. |
[Matt] “Get rid of all those expectations of what we’re going to be doing for a video or what our look might be. I think we’ve afforded ourselves the freedom. rnThat was the philosophy, to be free and not be trapped and have the freedom to use different mediums to express yourself, to have a nice full pallet.” [Chad] “I think we can still challenge people that way too. We can challenge our fans or challenge anyone for that matter. You get used to, ‘Oh they don’t wear make-up anymore,’ or ‘Yeah, they’re wearing make-up.’ You just gotta do whatever you feel that’s in you that day. You decide that day, when you get up kind of thing, like, ‘I’m hung-over and pissed off, I’m a monkey tonight. Let’s do it. You know what I mean?” |
The band was half in and half not in make-up for the shoot, and fans who were invited down were urged to wear white t-shirts and dark jeans. We asked about the significance of the attire for the shoot. |
[Chad] “There is because of the treatment that we’re doing on the film. That’s why we’re doing that. We don’t really know what’s going to happen. We’ve got an idea. Is it going to be cool? Who knows?” [Matt] “We were wearing make-up off and on all throughout the last tour in ’05 and ’06…” [Chad] “Ryan and I had been talking about that today.” [Matt] “Who knows… You don’t know what we’re going to do. I remember I think it was Ozzfest in ’05 and I was interviewed before the show and this interviewer, she’s like, ‘Since Mudvayne quit wearing the make-up…’ or whatever, and we had already decided earlier that morning that we were going to go onstage that afternoon for the show. ‘Who told you we ever stopped? We just haven’t been doing it. [Chad] “We didn’t do things collectively either. Like it didn’t matter. Some day, I would feel like doing it and he might not. Some day Ryan would feel like doing it and I would not, and we just did |
Mudvayne’s The New Game is released November 18, and “Do What You Do” has already been the Number One most added at Active Rock and the Number Two most added at Alternative Rock radio. They’ll kick off “The New Game Tour” on October 28 in El Paso, Texas. |
