Motley Crue’s Nikki Sixx recently visited Covenant House in Los Angeles to launch his Running Wild In The Night fundraising initiative in conjunction with the charity. Sixx will help youth steer away from drugs and use their efforts in a more creative way by using the funds to start a creative arts program for the organization. |
Sixx, who was for a time homeless, drug addicted and living on the street, talked about naming the organization and working with director George Lozano. |
“Running Wild In The Night” was actually a song that I wrote twenty-six years ago and the lyrics were based on my experience in the street. So when I called up Katie McNeil at 10th Street and said that I really wanted to do something helping kids out we met with George at Covenant House here, we decided this was the place to go. She said, ‘Well, what do you want to call it?’ And I immediately thought, Running Wild In The Night, that’s the idea.” |
Sixx has raised close to $40,000 so far for his Running Wild In The Night initiative, and he said that all kids need is a chance to discover and nurture their talents. |
“It goes back to, really for me, when I got off the street was the beginning by being in Motley Crue and giving me a life that was a chance. I mean, that’s all they need is a chance, and they’ll do great things.” |
Sixx added that Motley Crue will be involved in Covenant House in the near future. Covenant house provides services to homeless and runaway kids in 21 cities across the U.S., and it creates programs to get kids shelter, to find work, and to ultimately become independent adults. |
