MOTLEY CRUE AND DIMEBAG HONORED IN HARD ROCK 35TH ANNIVERSARY
(VIDEO) Motley Crue and Dimebag Darrell — via Vinnie Paul — were honored at the 35th Anniversary of the Hard Rock… and both were honored. |
Motley Crue was the guest of honor for the 35th Anniversary of the Hard Rock Cafe in New York City as part of the Ambassador series of concerts. Also honored was Pantera and Damageplan brethren Vinnie Paul and the late Dimebag Darrell. Stars showing up for the event included a wide range of artists from OAR, Matt Sorum of Velvet Revolver, Hootie And The Blowfish, Aerosmith and Rick Nielsen of Cheap Trick among others. |
The night was punctuated by Steven Tyler of Aerosmith and Motley Crue getting together for the show’s finale “Helter Skelter.” Although Motley didn’t stop by to chat with a press, in a brief presentation Nikki Sixx thanked the Hard Rock institution. |
“We’re excited to be here. We’re excited to play for this. This is a little piece of history, and we were talking earlier that we weren’t really aware that the Hard Rock had been around that long. It started in London 35 years ago. Who would think that a hamburger place with a couple of guitars would still be around and turn into this huge thing so this is a nice piece of rock and roll history for us to be a part of. Thank you.” |
Drummer Vinnie Paul stopped to talk with us about having one of Dimebag’s guitars presented into the Hard Rock Cafe and the anniversary of the memorabilia filled restaurant chain. |
“Man, obviously it’s a… There’s a lot of special things going on tonight. Thirty-five years and the Hard Rock’s kicking ass, growing every year, getting bigger and more and more international and so it’s a big night for them. And then for them to be able to induct a very special guitar that Dime played on the entire Reinventing The Steel tour into the Hard Rock means a lot. All these things will ensure his legacy lives on forever, and it’s a very special night for us tonight.” |
Paul later on presented Dimebag’s guitar to the New York City Hard Rock, and the drummer said that Darrell definitely got good use out of it. |
“This one right here was played on the Reinventing The Steel tour. Every night he beat the s–t out of that mutherf—er I promise you. It’s now a proud member — and from what I understand it’s going right here in New York, which will be the first piece of memorabilia in the cafe in New York — so we’re very excited. This is a very special night.” |
The Ambassadors Of Rock series of events has already hit Chicago with Panic Channel, London with Roger Waters and The Who. Future events are set for Orlando and Hollywood Florida with Staind at the end of the month, and Cheap Trick will play in Osaka and Nagoya, Japan. |
