MOTION CITY SOUNDTRACK TALK ABOUT PRODUCER MARK HOPPUS
Motion City Soundtrack, on the strength of their latest hit release, ‘Commit This to Memory’ have been selling out arenas from coast to coast on their current headlining tour. The bands album was also one of the first projects former Blink 182 member Mark Hoppus produced. Justin Pierre and Joshua Cain of Motion City Soundtrack talked recently about having Hoppus hand pick the band and having a fresh ear in the studio. |
The band came to know Hoppus when Motion City Soundtrack had the opening slot on one of Blink 182’s last world tours a few years back and their relationship has grown from there. Current Plus 44 member Mark Hoppus shared his thoughts on why he loves producing these days. |
“I would say we hand picked Mark Hoppus more than he handpicked us. Basically, I mean, we’re pretty good at what we do and we had a huge slew of people to chose from. It was a long list. The nice thing with Mark Hoppus is he was the guy that would come in and if we were second guessing something he was usually the guy would be like no no, it is good. Or yes, you’re right it is terrible and you should remove that. In nicer words probably.” |
It was announced recently Motion City Soundtrack will be headlining the upcoming mtvU mtvU “Campus Invasion Tour,” which we will be headlining in April and May with special guests Straylight Run and Hellogoodbye. The twenty date trek will kick off on April 5 at East Stroudsburg State University in Pennsylvania and run through the first week of May, when we’ll cap off all Spring touring with a performance at both the Bamboozle and Flipside festivals. |
“It’s so good for me to learn other peoples points of view in music because when you’re in the studio the greatest thing about being in the studio when a song is written is that it’s all these different creative ideas coming together to form one song. And with Motion City Soundtrack, there’s five guys in that band and so five different opinions on every single song and you know I have my opinion as well. So the creative process of all these different minds coming together is something I really enjoy. It’s what makes a song what it is. Five different people would come up with a completly different song.” |
