R.E.M. frontman Michael Stipe, Bright Eyes, Susan Sarandon, Margaret Cho, Moby, Chuck D, and DMC, were among the stars performing for the Bring Em Home concert on Monday night (March 20). The event designed to promote awareness of what they believe is the truth about the war, and to mobilize people to encourage the politicians to bring our troops home. |
The event featured the unveiling of an anti-war stamp, and Stipe mugged with both other musicians and real-world anti-war activists at a pre-event press conference. Backstage Fischerspooner’s Casey Spooner, with Warren Fischer next to him, talked about what they want people to get out of the event. |
“I mean, I think the thing that is important is to just raise awareness about this anniversary and to also raise our voices against a war, that I personally never felt was motivated by how it was sold to me. So I think those are two very important things: to raise awareness, mark the anniversary, and to raise our voices against a war that I personally didn’t condone.” |
3000 tickets were sold for the Hammerstein Ballroom benefit, with funds being distributed to a handful of anti-war charities. |
