MICHAEL JACKSON TO RECIEVE LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD AT 2010 GRAMMYS
It was recently announced that Michael Jackson will be among the recipients of a lifetime achievement award at the 2010 Grammys, joining Canadian singer Leonard Cohen, blues musician David “Honeyboy” Edwards, country star Loretta Lynn, pianist Andre Previn, fluegelhorn player Clark Terry and the late singer Bobby Darin. Throughout his storied career, Jackson won 13 Grammys and scored 17 No. 1 singles in the United States, and his 1982 “Thriller” is the highest-selling album of all time. The posthumous award for Lifetime Achievement will highlight what will undoubtedly be multiple Grammy tributes to the fallen singer who died tragically in 2009 at age 50. His death is still the subject of a criminal investigation. |
At the Grammy nomination event, the legendary Smokey Robinson, who has also recieved a Grammy for lifetime achievement in the past, shared his thoughts on this years Grammy’s paying homage to one of the worlds most beloved artists of all time. |
“Well I think The Grammy’s will probably do something as a tribute to Michael. He most certainly deserves whatever they come up with and I’m sure it will be something great and spectacular because that’s how he was. He was great and spectacular and he is someone who will always be Michael Jackson.” |
The Recording Academy will honor the lifetime achievement winners at an invitation-only event on January 30, the day before the Grammy Awards are handed out in Los Angeles. Past winners of the lifetime achievement award include Frank Sinatra, Willie Nelson, Chuck Berry, B.B. King and Bob Dylan to name a few. The Grammy’s will air Sunday, Jan. 31, at 8pm on CBS.rn |
