MICHAEL CAINE IMPRESSED BY JUDE DUAL ROLES
Michael Caine knew what it was like for Jude Law to play two roles as he did them himself 35 years ago. |
Sleuth is a two actor piece starring Michael Caine and Jude Law as dueling opponents fighting over a woman in a game of cat and mouse which escalates to far sinister proportions by the movie’s end. |
Jude Law who plays Milo Tindle also takes on the role of the Inspector and is completely unrecognizable thanks to Caine’s direction to Kenneth Branagh. |
“I thought it was wonderful. I really thought the disguise was wonderful. And then someone said to me, ‘well what about people who’ve seen the other movie?’ They’ll know it’s him because they saw me in disguise. I said to Kenny two things about the make-up with Jude is when he comes on the audience mustn’t be sitting there saying that’s Jude Law and why doesn’t Michael Caine see that’s Jude Law. You can’t see that that’s Jude Law. He was so good in that make-up. I then said to Kenny when it came to where he takes it off I said you must be in close on him and go through every detail. I said because he’s so good they’ll think another actor played that part.” |
Michael still has memories of his own make-up session as the Inspector which was 35 years ago. |
“It was four and a half hours and there was less technology than he had. There was just dumping stuff and everything on your face and the thing I hated most about it was everybody went home and it took me another hour to get home because to take it off. That’s what I really hated because I love to go home. I spend my entire time on a movie trying to go home.” |
Caine is currently filming The Dark Knight which he promises will be the best Batman yet, and the scariest Joker courtesy of Heath Ledger. |
