Metallica was connected to two Grammy Awards during Sunday night’s (February 8) pre-telecast ceremony at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. Metallica took home Best Metal Performance for the song “My Apocalypse” and for Best Recording Package for Death Magnetic , where the Grammy goes to the Art Directors of the collection. |
Metallica was nominated for four awards and came away with just one, but the new guy in the band, Robert Trujillo, represented. James Hetfield, Lars Ulrich and Kirk Hammett elected to stay home, and during his acceptance for Best Metal Performance the bass player hoped for two in-a-row as Rock Instrumental was given out next. |
“And the Grammy goes to… Metallica, ‘My Apocalypse.’ [Trujillo] “Alright, Lars, James and Kirk have six of these or seven? So, I’ll take this one. Anyway, thanks a lot. We appreciate you all. Thanks to the Academy and for everyone for beliving in us and our instrumentals, thank you.” |
Metallica’s instrumental from Death Magnetic is titled “Suicide & Redemption.” They lost to Zappa Plays Zappa Featuring Steve Vai & Napoleon Murphy’s “Peaches En Regalia.” Other nominees were “Hope (Live For The Art Of Peace)” by Rush, “Castellorizon” by David Gilmour, and “34 Ghosts I-IV” by Nine Inch Nails. |
