METALLICA ROCK HALL SABBATH PERFORMANCE A DREAM COME TRUE
Metallica iducted Black Sabbath into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame on Monday night, and the band performed two classic songs “Hole In The Sky” and “Iron Man.” The band not only honored their heroes at the ceremony, they played crushing renditions of the songs to Sabbath’s delight. |
Backstage, drummer Lars Ulrich called the opportunity a dream come true. |
“Like we hinted at it was an honor and a dream come true to play those songs in front of those guys. Forget about the rest of the room with all the great people in the room, but just having those four guys there watching us play their timeless music that, like I said, is pretty much responsible for us being here. That was definitely a dream come true.” |
Metallica also talked about the song selection of “Iron Man” and “Hole In The Sky.” |
“Well, somebody said either ‘Paranoid’ or ‘Iron Man,’ so that was easy — no disrespect to ‘Paranoid’ of course – and ‘Hole In The Sky’ just felt like… We sat down and listened to a bunch of the early stuff, and ‘Hole In The Sky’ summed up everything Black Sabbath was about in five minutes. It’s not easy with that amount of great material to pick one song. We were even thiking at one point about even doing a medley, but ‘Hole In The Sky’ just summed it up for us. It was a really sort of cool, bouncy, fairly effortless song to play once you get into the swing of it. So being in an unfamiliar setting and a little nervous and f–k ups and all that, we figured it was a pretty safe bet.” |
Fans can catch the performances March 21 on VH1 when the channel’s Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame program airs. Others who were inducted included Lynyrd Skynyrd, Sex Pistols, and Blondie among others. |
